Project Brief
A monumental and historic Grade II listed building in Newcastle city centre which was once occupied by the Allied Irish Bank and Beecham Peacock. It has stood derelict for numerous years and fell into a state of disrepair. A willing private property investor saw potential and bought the building to covert the 3 upper floors into serviced apartments and has refurbished the ground floor into a bar/restaurant (Manhatta) which showcase the old banking halls many historic features. The building is located on a one-way road in Newcastle city centre, with vehicular access to only one elevation. The project required precise logistical planning and discussion with Newcastle City Council (NCC).What We Did
Protecting the historic fabric of the building was of the highest importance. Consult North managed the design team and encouraged a sympathetic refurbishment that would likely pass the stringent requirements of the Local Planning Authority. The plans were subsequently passed by NCC and Consult North appointed a Contractor after a competitive tender process.Consult North are well rehearsed in dealing with dilapidated historic buildings, from cost planning to provide accurate costing advice to ensuring a comprehensive tender pack is put together for the purposes of Contractors pricing the works. This all helps to protect our clients’ financial interests and ensuring the costs are suitably managed.
